Enlarging the sheet metal is done by first creating multiple slits in the sheet and then stretching the sheet. The stretch creates a unique diamond pattern opening, with a strand protruding at a slight angle. These raised strands can be flattened later in the process if desired. As you can see, this process does not generate any waste (thus reducing production costs) and it increases the structural strength of the product.

Perforated sheet metal is a product made from sheet steel that is fed through a machine that punches round holes (or other designs). The holes can be lined up or staggered to increase the number of openings. Usually, the perimeter of the worksheet has a border with no perforations in it; this increases the stability of the worksheet. The metal removed from the holes can be recovered, but it also adds to the cost of the product. The larger the hole size (or the increased number of holes), the greater the amount of scrap and therefore the cost.
